Assistant Vice President of Nursing Workforce Development Karen Pleva has influenced numerous departments over the past 14 years across the NHRMC system. Her leadership has been integral to the success of many programs and initiatives.

On Friday, December 28, Karen will retire from NHRMC after a 44-year career in nursing.

Karen has taken lead roles in Cardiac Services, Behavioral Health Services, Professional Development, CNRO and House Supervision, Adult Health Services and Patient Safety & Quality Improvement.

Her most recent work has been on Workforce Development and Mentorship.

“Karen’s leadership style and previous nursing leadership roles contributed to her ability to step in and get the job done successfully,” said Mary Ellen Bonczek, NHRMC Chief Nurse Executive.

Karen’s influence reaches far beyond the NHRMC system. She has represented NHRMC in the development of the nursing community, contributing her professionalism and enthusiasm to bolster relationships with many Schools of Nursing and the NC Board of Nursing.

In retirement, Karen will be enjoying time with her family, including her most recent addition of great grandchildren.  She will continue as faculty for UNCW and continue contributing to the nursing community here in the Cape Fear Region.

“We are grateful for the contributions Karen made over her 14 years at NHRMC,” Bonczek said.

Please wish Karen well as she begins her retirement.
